Why Natural Lip Balm Is Better For You

We care about our bodies. You wouldn't be reading this if you didn't, even just a little, right? Maybe you’re not a full-blown, organic eating, sauna-sitting, yoga-stretching hippie of a natural products consumer but you care. One of the easiest ways to care about your body without going full out hippie on us is making the switch to a natural lip balm.

When it comes to taking care of your lips, it’s important to be aware of what you’re putting on them. Big industry lip balms like Chapstick are mass-produced and often contain ingredients that can be harmful to your health. Natural lip balm, on the other hand, is made with plant-based ingredients that are safe and nourishing for your lips. In this blog post, we’ll explain why natural lip balm is better for you than a big industry lip balm like Chapstick.

The first reason natural lip balm is better for you is that it avoids the use of synthetic ingredients. Big industry lip balms like Chapstick often contain synthetic ingredients, such as petroleum, parabens, and phthalates, which have been linked to health problems such as cancer, reproductive issues, and skin irritation. Natural lip balm, on the other hand, is made with plant-based ingredients that are safe and nourishing for your lips. Here at Green Theory Naturals, our ingredients list is as follows: beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, cocoa butter, olive oil, vitamin E oil and essential oils for flavor. I bet you know what every one of those ingredients are and I bet you can’t say the same for Chapstick. A quick review of their ingredients turns up the following: “Petrolatum, paraffin, mineral oil, octyldodecanol, arachidyl propionate, phenyl trimethicone, beeswax, oleyl alcohol, isopropyl lanolate, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, isopropyl myristate, lanolin, camphor, methylparaben, propylparaben, cetyl alcohol, yellow 5 lake, red 6 lake, titanium dioxide, parfum.” Lots of weird, unknown and suspicious ingredients in that list. Is that really what you wanna be slathering on your lips each day? Here’s a quick hint, the answer is a hard no.

The second reason natural lip balm is better for you is that it is more moisturizing. Natural lip balms contain oils such as coconut and olive oil that are incredibly nourishing for the lips and help to keep them soft and hydrated. These oils also lock in moisture to protect the lips from the elements. In contrast as we’ve seen above, big industry lip balms like Chapstick contain petroleum, which can actually be drying to the lips. You see, commercially manufactured, big business lip balm has a vested interest in getting you to buy as much of their product as they can get into your hands. It's a perfect setup - we’ll tell you it's good for your lips and it does soften them for a short amount of time but then an hour or two later, you’re back re-applying because the ingredients in your Chapstick actually dry out your lips. Use more, buy more. Rinse, wash, repeat.

With natural lip balms, you’ll save money in the long run because we make our products to actually work not to make you work so you can buy more lip balm. Imagine if you would, applying your lip balm once or twice a day and forgetting about chapped lips. No more making sure every purse, car, desk and bathroom is stocked up with some ready to go at any given moment. It’s liberating.

The third reason natural lip balm is better for you is that it is natural and safe for the environment. Natural lip balms are made with plant-based ingredients that are safe for the environment, and the packaging is often biodegradable or recyclable. In contrast, big industry lip balms contain synthetic ingredients that can be harmful to the environment, and their packaging is often not biodegradable or recyclable.

Finally, natural lip balm is better for you because it is free from animal testing. Many big industry lip balms are tested on animals, which is cruel and unnecessary. At Green Theory, we are 100%  cruelty-free and don’t test our products on animals ever…we have willing friends and family to do our testing and they can talk and give much better feedback than Rover can.

In summary, natural lip balm is better for you than big industry lip balms like Chapstick for a number of reasons. Natural lip balms are made with plant-based ingredients that are safe and nourishing for your lips. They are also more moisturizing than big industry lip balms, and they are natural and safe for the environment. Finally, natural lip balms are free from animal testing, which is an added bonus.
